10/15/2008  PAINTING IN THE VINEYARD A HUGE SUCCESS!

What a glorious day we experienced in the beautiful Elk Cove Vineyards on Saturday, Oct. 11th!  Our intrepid group of plein air painters spread out over the vineyard painting everything from big fat Pinot Noir Grapes up close and personal, to the beautiful sedum in bloom, to those who took the long view over the hilly vineyards among blasted trees and vines just beginning to turn fall colors!

We arrived around 10:00 AM and spent the first half hour or so picking our site and taking a lot of pictures.  Then the painting began in earnest with Lucy and Kristin making water color sketches, The Sharon's and Sheryl sketching and beginning their acrylic studies.

At around Noon we broke for a fabulous pinic lunch brought in by Sharon's daughter, Lori, who set up a beautiful picnic in the vineyard.  It was almost too beautiful to eat (although we managed!) and several winery visitors even asked to take pictures of our table!

After lunch we painted for another hour or so and then went into the winery for our tasting, which included some award winning blush wines, two fine Pinot Noirs, a Pinot Gris, and a Reisling.  Bottles were purchased, and wine accessories, and then it was off to visit several Yamhill County Artist Studios during their annual tour.  This was an unexpected bonus to the day since we hadn't known there would be open studios in the area, but we took good advantage and saw some gorgeous art besides getting a few tips on studio set up, viewing a pastel artist at work, and some well known local artists.

We got home around  6:00 exhausted from our gorgeous day and thoroughly replete and dreaming of the buzz of bees in the vineyard, the breeze on our necks, the sun on our shoulders, the wine in our belly, and beauty of nature and the fantastic artists' renderings we experienced!   We definitely plan to go again soon!

Next time, please join us!

9/25/08  PLEIN AIR PAINTING IN THE VINEYARDS OF YAMHILL COUNTY!

Due to the response to our Wine Country Weekend, we have added a day trip for those of you who can't commit to a whole weekend.  We are planning a day of Plein Air painting at Elk Cove Estate Winery near Yamhill, Oregon on October 11, 2008!  The day will begin at 10:00 AM at the winery where we will set up in the vineyard to paint and sketch.  You will be served a picnic lunch in the Gazebo, and then tour the winery at 1:00 PM.  This will be followed by painting the afternoon away in the vineyard, or sampling more wine....as you wish.

We will also be caravaning down from Vancouver, so if you want to join us, or need a ride, be sure to call.  We will leave Vancouver at around 9:00 AM on Saturday morning, and return at approximately 6:00 PM.

This fun day of painting for only $50!  This covers the cost of the tour, the lunch, and the personalized painting instruction by Sharon.

8/8/08  CAMAS LIVE!  was a big success!  After a bit of rain to begin the afternoon, the clouds shifted, and the street came alive with wonderful art and music.  It turned out to be a lovely evening!

Thanks to Lesley Faulds for loaning back my painting of Lavender Fields for the show!  Everyone loved that painting and tried to buy it again!  I will have to make a series of lavender paintings, I can tell!  I also previewed my newest plein air painting, After The Storm, below.  A new Venice painting is also in the works.

Come on down to Camas on First Friday, August 1st, for camLIVE!

Join Sharon in front of the Nevado Art Gallery on 4th Avenue,  and other local artists for this fun festival in Camas just a few miles from Vancouver.

"This Special First Friday celebration in Old Town Camas will be unlike any other Camas First Friday Event.  Expect up to six live music stages to be peppered into the mix of an excellent artist line up. Nationally recognized artists like Bev Jozwiak, and Vicki Nelson, who have both been featured in the prestigious Lawrence Gallery in Portland will be present. Additionally, art by Rio, an outsider artist, and local favorites like Sharon Whyte, Elida Fields and Barbara Matkowski will round out the display of fine artists on the street. Thirty talented artists are signed on, and over a dozen musical acts ranging from jazz, indy to classic guitar are scheduled for the event. Do not miss this opportunity for ART, MUSIC and FLAVOR! The event will be from 3pm - 9 pm, in downtown Camas (4th Avenue, from Dallas to Adams). "                                                                   --From the CamLive website

English Estates Wine and Art Show!

The July Art Fair was a huge success this past weekend, July 12 & 13. English Estates is a small private vintner here in Vancouver that has been around since 1903, but only in the past 20 years have their wines begun to catch hold and mellow to produce some really nice Pinot Noirs. Their English Estate Black Pinot Reserve 2003 is an award winner and one of my favorites.

The art in the vineyard was so enticing with beautiful jewelry artists, potters, painters, photographers, and wire sculptures. Most every artist had sales, some more than others, and I am happy to say that I did very well selling several of my large acrylic paintings of French and Italian landscapes. My prints were also a hit and we came home Sunday exhausted but richer in both experience and profits! I will definitely go back again next year!

Many thanks to my patrons, the Fauld's & the McBoyle's for buying my paintings!  Especially the McBoyle's who bought a painting unfinished!  Happy Birthday Mrs. McBoyle!

Thank you to the students and friends who stopped by to visit the booth and to enjoy the day and the wine.  Gail and I are discussing combining an art and wine trip to Bordeax next spring, so stay tuned for details!
